UMW Esports to Host 2nd Annual Spring High School Showcase at Virginia Credit Union Stadium

The UMW Esports program is excited to announce its second annual Spring High School Showcase hosted at the Fredericksburg Nationals Stadium on March 2nd, 2024! This showcase is an opportunity for High School students to showcase their abilities in a broadcasted tournament within the game Super Smash Brothers Ultimate!

The tournament is a free-to-enter 64-player double-elimination bracket that will be open to all current high school students to attend. The event will also be open to spectators and the public, with food and beverages available to purchase while spectating the tournament! The previous tournament took place on campus at the University of Mary Washington, but thanks to the Esports Program's ongoing collaboration with the Fredericksburg Nationals Minor League Baseball team, the tournament is now set to be hosted at the stunning Virginia Credit Union Stadium!

Director of Esports Mark Link stated, "Many High School Esports programs have previously vocalized the desire for their students to have opportunities to compete in person, and we hope this tournament continues to provide that experience to the next generation of Collegiate Esports Student-Athletes". Current Freshman Esports Student-Athlete Chanse Walker competed last year in the showcase as a High School senior before being recruited to play as a member of the UMW Esports Program. His thoughts on the tournament were that it "was a fantastic experience".

The event will be live streamed on the Esports Program's official Twitch channel for all friends and family of those competing to enjoy! You can stay up to date on information regarding the tournament or preregister to attend yourself, on the UMW Esports Twitter Page (https://twitter.com/umw_esports).
