The University of Mary Washington riding team strengthened its grip on first place in the regional standings with a first place showing at the Virginia Commonwealth University show on Saturday.

The Eagles gained five first place class finishes, with Kimberly Counts and Nikki Ferrell taking first in their open on the flat classes, Daniel Odum taking first in his intermediate on the flat class, and Allie Perez and Victoria Shiel taking blue ribbons in their walk-trot-canter classes.

UMW will host its annual show next Saturday at Hazelwild Farm at 10:00 a.m.
