UMW Baseball Falls at Bridgewater

The Mary Washington baseball team  (17-5) lost a close road matchup with Bridgewater, 5-4, in Bridgewater, Va. on Wednesday evening.

UMW jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning as Ty Lowe drove in Jacob Christenbury with an RBI double for the first run of the game before Lowe scored on a wild pitch two batters later.

Bridgewater would score two runs in the bottom half, then one more in the fourth to take the lead, 3-2.

In the sixth, UMW would punch back with two runs of its own to take a 4-3 lead as reigning Coast-to-Coast Player of the Week Oliver Martin tied it with an RBI double, then Ryan Schwarz gave the Eagles the lead with a sac fly.

Brendan McComber did more than enough on the mound to give UMW a chance to win on Wednesday as he went six innings, yielding three runs, while striking out seven.

Griffin Graham would pitch the seventh and eighth, recording a pair of scoreless innings.

In the ninth, Bridgewater would tie it with a double, then a bloop base hit that fell in front of the right fielder. And in the 11th inning, BC would go on to win with a base-loaded RBI single.

The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the D3 Baseball Poll for the first time this season, welcome Randolph-Macon (RV) on Thursday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium in Fredericksburg, Va. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
