Swiney Picks Up Win No. 300 as Eagles Down William Peace, 6-0

Mary Washington baseball's head coach, Kelly Swiney, recorded his 300th career victory on Tuesday as the Eagles downed William Peace, 6-0, in Cary, N.C.

The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Bobby Ayscue singled home Ryan Schwarz, who led off the game reaching on an error, to get the offense started for the Eagles. Then, Noah Roots singled home Burke Stiefman, which Tommy Martinez did the same, scoring Ayscue. And finally, Jacob Christenbury singled home a pair of runners to close out the top of the first for the Eagles.

UMW's bats were held quiet for most of the game after as they added one final run in the ninth when George Rizzo scored on a wild pitch.

But on the mound, the Eagles shoved. They recorded their second shutout win of the season -- the second in four days -- as Brendan McComber gave UMW a five inning scoreless start as he punched out six, yielding just four hits and no walks. Griffin Graham tossed the sixth inning, striking out a batter. Then Eric McDaniel threw a scoreless seventh, working around a runner. In the eighth, Connor Hassan struck out a pair, while Jamie Kotula finished out the game in the ninth.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday with a doubleheader against Hood College before returning home for a doubleheader with Marymount on Sunday.
