Mary Washington baseball's Bobby Ayscue (player) and Gavin Riley (pitcher) took home the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference's weekly player and pitcher of the week honors on Monday morning, the conference announced.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bobby Ayscue, Mary Washington
In two games this past weekend, Mary Washington's Bobby Ayscue recorded four hits in nine at-bats (.444), adding two extra-base hits, a walk and four RBIs. In the first leg of the Eagles' doubleheader against Mt. St. Mary's (N.Y.), the senior recorded an RBI single in the second inning of an 18-7 rout of the Knights. In the bottom of the seventh, Ayscue doubled home three runs to complete a mercy-rule walk-off -- finishing the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a hit-by-pitch. In the Eagles' second leg on Saturday, Ayscue singled in the first inning and then tripled a run home in the bottom of the sixth to push UMW's lead to 5-0.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Gavin Riley, Mary Washington
Getting the nod on Opening Day for Mary Washington on the bump, left-hander Gavin Riley was nothing short of impressive in his Eagles debut. The transfer from Richard Bland threw five innings for the Eagles, yielding just four hits and a run -- while striking out five hitters in the 18-7 victory.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Washington (11 a.m.) and Susquehanna (2:15 p.m.).
