Jin Wong '97 is a Major League Baseball (MLB) executive with decades of experience working in MLB administration, most recently with the Kansas City Royals, where he helped bring a World Series title to Kansas City in 2015. He joined the Chicago White Sox as Vice President and Assistant General Manager in recent weeks.

With Wong returning to campus for a series of events with students and UMW Athletics, the University of Mary Washington arranged an opportunity for him to share his experiences with alumni, parents, and friends. Join us in Monroe Hall Room 116 on Thursday, January 18 from 7-7:45 p.m. Following the program, we will enjoy a light dessert reception.

There is no cost to attend this event, but registration is requested, as space is limited.

Wong will also meet with student-athletes and the College of Business at 3:30 p.m. in Woodard Hall, room 202. Following his 3:30 p.m. meeting, Wong will address to UMW Baseball Team as its season begins on Feb. 10 with a weekend matchup with Mt. St. Mary's.

Wong, who played baseball at UMW, graduated in 1997 from the university, where he was a Division III All-American in 1996. He joined the Royals as Scouting Operations Coordinator in 2000, was promoted to Manager of Scouting Operations in 2001, Manager of Baseball Operations in 2002, Director of Baseball Operations in 2004 and Director of Baseball Administration in 2006. He was promoted to Assistant General Manager-Baseball Administration in Jan. 2015, a position he held before joining the White Sox this winter.

Among his Chicago responsibilities, Wong will oversee contract negotiations, salary arbitration, budgeting and payroll management, and compliance with Major League Baseball rules and regulations, including the collective bargaining agreement.

During his tenure in Kansas City's front office, Wong negotiated a number of key player contracts, including multi-year deals with Zack Greinke (2009), Joakim Soria (2009, '16), Billy Butler (2011), Alcides Escobar (2012), Salvador Pérez (2012, '17, '22), Kelvin Herrera (2015), Eric Hosmer (2015), Yordano Ventura (2015), Lorenzo Cain (2016), Alex Gordon (2016), Mike Moustakas (2016) and Danny Duffy (2017).
