UMW Baseball Falls at Hampden-Sydney, 14-1, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 14-1 decision at Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 11-7 on the season.

After a scoreless first inning, Hampden-Sydney jumped ahead with one run in the second, and two in the fourth. UMW gained its run in the fifth, as Andrew Gerhart walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a bunt before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Bobby Ayscue.

The Tigers would score three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and six in the seventh.

Ayscue and Chris Rubano each had a double to lead UMW. Sophomore Erik Parnell took the loss, allowing five earned runs in five innings, giving up seven hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.

Mary Washington will return to action on Friday against John Carroll University at 3:00 p.m.
