UMW Baseball Sweeps Eastern; Swiney Wins 250th Game

The University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a doubleheader from Eastern University on Thursday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles won the opener, 15-3, and then took the second, 11-9. UMW head coach Kelly Swiney won his 250th career game in the game one win.

In the opener, freshman Jacob Christenbury had a double and two singles, Owen Reilly had a home run and two singles, and Xavier Herring doubled and tripled. Sam Freeborne had a pair of hits and Ty Lowe added a home run.

Sophomore Brendan McComber gained the win, allowing five hits and three earned runs in seven innings, with ten strikeouts and no walks.

In game two, the Eagles overcame a late deficit with a six-run sixth inning to win, 11-9. Senior Norman Holcomb had a single and home run, scoring three runs and driving in two, while Sam Freeborne had two hits and two RBI, and Jonathan Sedmak singled and doubled, scoring one run and driving in another.

Sophomore Jamie Kotula gained the win in relief, allowing one run in one inningwith two walks and a strikeout. Junior Noah Adcock-Howeth picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless seventh.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they face Gwynedd Mercy College at 4:00 p.m.
