UMW Baseball Tops Hanover, 13-5, on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach

The University of Mary Washington baseball team defeated Hanover College, 13-5, on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season.

UMW fell behind, 2-0 in the first, but gained a run back in the bottom of the frame. Jacob Christenbury led off with a single, advanced on a hit by pitch and walk, and scored on a Noah Roots sacrifice fly. Hanover added a run in the second, but the Eagles answered with two to tie the score, as Bobby Ayscue and Ty Lowe provided RBI singles.

The Eagles forged ahead with an eight-run third. Burke Steifman and Lowe each provided two-run hits, and Roots connected for a three-run homer in the inning. UMW posted single runs in the fourth and sixth on a Lowe groundout and Roots fielder's choice. Hanover capped the scoring with two in the seventh.

Christenbury had three hits and three runs scored, Lowe had two hits and four RBI, and Roots drove in five runs. Jonathan Sedmak, Chris Rubano, and Steifman each had two hits.

Ryan Dudak gained the win in relief for the Eagles, allowing one run on five hits in five innings. He allowed one walk and struck out seven.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Thursday against Eastern University in Myrtle Beach.
