UMW's Brendan McComber Named C2C Pitcher of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2021 baseball season. Salisbury junior infielder Stephen Rice earned C2C Player of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington freshman Brendan McComber claimed C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Stephen Rice - Salisbury

Salisbury junior infielder Stephen Rice spurred an offensive eruption for the third-ranked Sea Gulls in a Friday doubleheader at St. Mary's (Md.). Rice had three hits in each game of the twin bill, scoring twice and driving in six runs in total. He was especially potent in Game 2, slashing two doubles and driving in four runs while stealing two bases. Rice either scored or plated eight of Salisbury's 17 runs in the double dip.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Brendan McComber - Mary Washington

Mary Washington freshman Brendan McComber made the most of his midweek start against Southern Virginia, throwing a six-hit complete game as the Eagles topped the Knights, 9-1. He scattered six hits and four walks in nine innings, striking out eight for his first collegiate complete game.

LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS

Southern Virginia senior Cole Campanile had a solid game against Mary Washington last week, going 1-3 with an RBI at the plate while also drawing a walk. The catcher also threw out the Eagles' only attempted stolen base of the game...Will Parker threw five innings against Mary Washington, giving up two runs while striking out five....Tyler Lowe turned in a consistent week as Mary Washington topped Southern Virginia and split a twinbill with #14 Randolph-Macon. For the week, he went 4-9 at the plate (.444), with a double, four runs scored, and three RBI in three games. He walked three times as well, for a .583 OBP. He posted a double and two walks in the win over SVU, and added three hits in seven at bats against the Yellow Jackets...Salisbury junior Xavier Marmol helped turn the tide in the third-ranked Sea Gulls' Game 2 win at St. Mary's (Md.) on Friday. Marmol inherited and stranded two runners in the third inning and only allowed two runners to reach during the rest of his outing. He earned his first win of the year with 5.2 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball, hitting one batter and walking none while striking out six. Marmol's steady hand helped Salisbury turn a 3-2 hole into an 11-3 victory.
