UMW Baseball Drops Doubleheader at William Peace

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader at William Peace University on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C. The Pacers won the first game 7-0, before winning the second 9-6. The Eagles slip to 0-3 overall on the season.

In the first game, UMW recorded three hits on the day. Bryce Runey, Sam Freeborne, and Canon Davies all had singles. Runey and Freeborne both recorded hits in the fourth inning to put a runner in scoring position with two outs, but the Eagles grounded out to end the inning.  Hyatt Hurst drew a walk for the Eagles. 

Daniel Osafo started the game for the Eagles, giving up three earned runs in 2.1 IP and striking out two batters. Chris LeVere came in relief and pitched 3.2 innings, striking out three batters and giving up two earned runs. 

The Eagles got on the board in the sixth inning of the second game. Down 4-0, the Eagles strung together a rally in a big way and scored six runs. Christian Hague led off the inning with a home run to left field. After that, Runey and Davies both drew walks with no outs. Noah Angstadt loaded the bases with a bunt single. 

Parker Wilburn picked up an RBI on a walk and then Andrew Gerhart scored two with a double to right field that tied the game at four a piece. Garrett Lyons gave UMW the lead as he came up and knocked a double through the left side to give UMW a 6-4 lead. The Pacers rallied in the bottom of the inning and scored five to take a 9-6 lead that they held on to win. 

Brandon Latham started the game giving up two unearned runs in 1.2 IP. Noah Adcock-Howeth came in relief to pitch 2.1 innings and gave up one earned run and struck out one batter. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday as they will host Marymount with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
