UMW Baseball Falls at York, 8-4, in Rain Shortened Game on Friday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision at York College in a contest shortened due to rain in Capital Athletic Conference action on Friday. The Eagles slip to 11-17 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

The Eagles jumped ahead with a run in the third inning, as starting pitcher Tyler Ray scored on a groundout from junior Garrett Lyons. The Eagles extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, as senior catcher Kevin France connected for a two-run triple, and scored on an error.

The Spartans erupted for five runs in the fourth to grab the lead, and added three more in the fifth to add insurance before the weather moved in.

Junior Christian Hague had two hits to lead the Eagles, along with France's two-run triple. Ray took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in four innings.

The teams will conclude their series on Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
