The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader at York College of Pa. on Sunday in Capital Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 26-12 and 3-1.
In the opener, York erupted for seven runs in the second inning. The Eagles answered with two runs in the third, as Tyler Truslow hit a solo home run, and Ramsis Ruiz singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Christian Hague.
The Spartans added a run in the third and six in the fourth. After a two-run fifth, the Eagles plated a pair of runs in the sixth, as Christian Hague doubled and scored on a Stephen Johnston double. Johnston would score on a Mark Smith single.
The Spartans scored 10 runs in the sixth, but UMW scored the next eight runs of the game. In the seventh, Zavier Webb hit a two run homer and Smith added a two-run triple. In the eighth, Johnston hit a grand slam.
Johnston led the Eagles with three hits and five RBI, while Kyle Bynum and Smith each had two hits.
In the second game, York scored a pair of first inning runs en route to a 3-1 win. The Eagles scored one in the fifth inning as Thomas Weaver hit a solo home run.
Weaver went 4-4 at the plate, with Johnston adding two hits for UMW. The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow as they visit Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 p.m.
