YORK, Pa. -- Wesley senior Trey Mears and Mary Washington sophomore Hank Biggs secured CAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for Feb. 27, 2017.

Wesley senior Trey Mears was named the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .737 and recording 15 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and nine runs scored in a 4-1 week for the Wolverines. Mears hit four doubles and posted an on-base percentage of .750 and a slugging percentage of .947. He set Wesley's single-game record for most RBIs in a single game when he drove in nine runs against Valley Forge on Thursday. Mears also hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Wesley over No. 12 ranked Oswego State on Sunday.

Mary Washington sophomore Hank Biggs received CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out 15 batters in 6.0 innings of work in a 6-1 victory over City College of New York. Biggs' 15 strikeouts was just two shy of the UMW school record. After allowing a walk to the first batter of the game and a sacrifice, he then struck out nine in a row. He allowed just one hit and one walk in the win.

Nine CAC squads have opened up their 2017 campaigns, with York set to begin its season today ... Salisbury is ranked No. 24 in the D3baseball.com National Poll, while Frostburg State and Christopher Newport are receiving votes ... In the Collegiate Baseball Division III Preseason Poll, Salisbury is ranked No. 30 while Frostburg State and Mary Washington are receiving votes ... Christopher Newport went 3-2 last week, led by a .444 batting average from Nicholas Baham. Baham hit .444 for the week with two home runs and nine RBIs. Senior southpaw Mike Thomas worked his third consecutive quality start to begin the season, tossing 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts in a win over Susquehanna. Thomas has struck out 18 in 19.0 innings of work this season, while holding opposing batters to a .149 BAA ... Frostburg State's J.T. Tipton hit .500 in two games over the weekend with three hits, three runs, a double, RBI and a walk. Greg Schneider struckout six in 6.0 innings of work in the Bobcats' 11-3 win over Montclair State, moving him to 2-0 on the season ... Mary Washington's Stephen Johnston continued his early season excellence, going 6-for-13 at the plate (.462) with a pair of doubles and a home run, walking three times, scoring five runs and driving in seven. He had two hits in each of UMW's first three games of the week, and in the fourth, came in to record the save with three strikeouts against three batters in a 4-1 win in game two against CCNY on Sunday. He is batting .435 on the season with 10 RBI ... Marymount sophomore Luke Tyree hit .500 with a .556 on-base percentage and .750 slugging last week for the Saints. Junior starting pitcher Collin Bazemore struck out six in 5.0 innings to earn a win againts Lynchburg. Bazemore has a 1.93 ERA this year, which ranks fourth in the conference ... St. Mary's freshman Zach Thompson went the distance for the Seahawks (4-4) in game one vs. McDaniel, striking out seven against just one walk and four hits. He tossed 7.0 innings with a 1.29 ERA in the 4-1 win ... Trailing No. 12 Oswego State 12-8 in the bottom of the ninth, Salisbury rallied to a 13-12 victory behind a walk-off two-run homer from sophomore Jay Perry. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Sea Gulls ... Southern Virginia freshman Cole Critchfield averaged .529 this week with four doubles and a triple and four RBIs. Critchfield leads the Knights in batting average (.439) and RBIs (10) this season ... Wesley junior Alex Marrs earned two wins last week, striking out 14 batters in 7.0 innings of work.
