Ryan Van Assche Named CAC Pitcher of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Wesley sophomore Chris Seibert and Mary Washington senior Ryan Van Assche were named the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for March 1, 2016.

Wesley sophomore Chris Seibert was picked as the the CAC Player of the Week after batting 9-for-12 (.750) in a 4-0 week for the Wolverines that included doubleheader sweeps over Lebanon Valley and City College of New York. The second baseman finished the week with three doubles, four RBIs, six runs scored, four stolen bases and no strikeouts in his 14 plate appearances. His best game came in the Wolverines' weekend opener where he posted a 3-for-3 line with two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Mary Washington senior southpaw Ryan Van Assche was selected as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game with 11 strikeouts in a 3-2 victory over Bridgewater on Friday. Van Assche scattered six hits in nine innings, allowing no earned runs with no walks while fanning 11 batters.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams are ranked in the D3baseball.com National Poll, with Frostburg State at No. 6, Salisbury at No. 7, Mary Washington at No. 18 and Christopher Newport at No. 24 ... Christopher Newport (8-0) and Mary Washington (8-0) remain unbeaten this spring ... CNU has won eight straight games to start the season for the first time in program history. Sophomore Brandon Ginch reached base 10 times in 12 plate appearances last week, posting a .833 on-base percentage along with a home run and five runs scored ... Frostburg State's Greg Schneider posted his second stellar outing of the season on Saturday with a 10-strikeout effort against Farmingdale State. Schneider earned the win after throwing 6.0 innings and scattering just four hits. KJ Hockaday hit .500 in three games over the weekend for the Bobcats. He went 5-for-10 with five RBI and three runs as Frostburg State finished 2-1 ... Mary Washington remained unbeaten on the year with four wins last week. Through two starts, Ryan Van Assche has allowed eight hits in 15 innings, with three walks and 17 strikeouts, with no earned runs allowed. Junior 3B Thomas Weaver hit .500 last week ... St. Mary's junior pitcher Nicholas Raimondo pitched for four innings in the second game against Gwynedd Mercy, helping the Seahawks to victory with his first win of the season ... Wesley went 4-0 over the weekend as their offense scored a total of 33 runs in the four games. Against Lebanon Valley, Wesley rode Cody Simet's arm to a 5-0 shutout win. Simet tossed a one-hitter, facing just three batters over the minimum. The squad then walked off against Lebanon Valley, earning a 3-2 win in the bottom of the seventh on a Chris Seibert RBI single. Against CCNY, Wesley scored 25 runs in two games to blow out the Beavers. Ron Morello finished with five RBIs on the day ... Tom LaBriola led Salisbury to its first two wins of the season in a doubleheader against Arcadia, collecting four hits in five at-bats for an .800 average while driving in five RBIs.
