Jono Haught Named CAC Baseball Player of the Year; Six Eagles Named All-CAC

Jono Haught Named CAC Baseball Player of the Year; Six Eagles Named All-CAC

The top three teams during the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season and championship tournament - Frostburg State, Salisbury and Mary Washington - combined for 24 of the 26 positions on the 2015 CAC All-Conference Baseball Team, including UMW senior catcher Jono Haught and FSU freshman pitcher/outfielder Greg Schneider.

Haught is the 11th Eagle to be picked by the conference coaches as the CAC Baseball Player of the Year, and the first since Will Wright in 2010, leading a group of six UMW players onto the All-CAC squad.

Joining Haught on the All-CAC first team are a trio of juniors, including starting pitcher Ryan Van Assche, reliever Tyler Daig and second baseman James Keller. Second-team all-star honorees for the Eagles include junior outfielder Mitch Moynihan and freshman first baseman David Slupek. Haught is the only Eagle previously named to the All-CAC team, earning second team honors in 2013.

Schneider, a pitcher/outfielder for the CAC regular-season and playoff champions, is the first Bobcat to be selected as the Rookie of the Year. A second-team all-star, Schneider was one of nine FSU players named to the All-CAC team.

First-team honorees include senior pitchers Clayton Freimuth and Bennett Schiltz, senior infielders Ricky Brady and Zach Weiss, along with senior outfielder Nick Walker. Joining Schneider on the second team are senior catcher Lane Farmer, senior shortstop Ricky Castro and junior catcher/outfielder Zach Keeler. Weiss and Castro were repeat selections from the 2014 All-CAC baseball team.

The Bobcats added a CAC-best 11th post-season award as Guy Robertson was selected by his peers as the 2015 CAC Coach of the Year. Robertson, who guided the Bobcats to their second title in five seasons in the CAC, also picked up the Coach of the Year award in 2011.

Second-place Salisbury matched Frostburg State with nine all-stars, including senior outfielders Kyle Hayman and Jordan Gowe, senior designated hitter Danny Breen and sophomore shortstop Pete Grasso. The Sea Gulls led the CAC with five second-team all-stars, including senior catcher Austin Barefoot, senior pitcher Brett Collacchi and Dan Fein, sophomore hurler Ryan Daiss and senior third baseman Bobby Sanzone.
Collacchi and Sanzone finish their careers as three-time conference all-stars while Barefoot, Fein and Hayman are second-time honorees.

Wesley senior catcher Matt Domian and Southern Virginia freshman outfielder Luke Smith completed the All-CAC second team. Both are making their first CAC post-season team appearance.
