#24 UMW Baseball Falls to #4 Salisbury, 9-6, in CAC Tournament Elimination Game

The 24th ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team scored six runs in the final four innings, but couldn't overcome an early seven-run deficit in a 9-6 loss to Salisbury University on Saturday in Frostburg, Md. The Eagles fall to 27-7 on the season.

After a scoreless first inning, Salisbury scored once in the second, three times in the third, and three more times in the fifth, to run up a 7-0 lead. Then, the Eagles' bats awoke, as UMW scored five times in the top of the sixth.

With one out, James Keller walked, and Justin Kime followed with a single. Senior Jono Haught delivered an RBI double to left-center field, and Mitch Moynihan followed with a two-run single. James Sink followed with a single to put runners at first and second, and David Slupek and Thomas Weaver provided RBI singles.

Salisbury resonded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a squeeze and a triple. The Eagles scored once in the eighth, but Salisbury avoided further damage with a double play with the bases loaded and one out. The Eagles started the ninth with a pair of hits, but could pull no closer.

Haught, Kime, Sink, and Weaver each had two hits for UMW, with Moynihan providing two RBI. Weaver took the loss on the mound for UMW, allowing four earned runs in four innings, with six hits allowed.

The Eagles will now await a potential NCAA Tournament berth. Announcements for the bracket will be made on May 10.
