UMW Baseball Sweeps York, 4-0 and 3-0, in Sunday CAC Twinbill

The University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a doubleheader from York College, 4-0 and 3-0, on Sunday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles move to 15-5 overall.

In the opener, junior Ryan Van Assche scattered four hits in gaining the complete game shutout win, walking one and striking out six. The Eagles plated three runs in the sixth, as James Sink singled and went to second as David Slupek was hit by a pitch. Brian Burns followed with a walk to load the bases.

Kyle Bynum then walked to plate a run, and James Keller followed with a two-run single. UMW scored again in the eighth, as Burns reached on an error, and stole third. Keller again followed with an RBI single.

Keller led UMW with three hits and all three RBI, while Justin Kime and Jono Haught singled twice for the Eagles.

In game two, Nick McIntyre allowed five hits in seven shutout innings in gaining the win, walking two and striking out five, and Tyler Daig gained the save with two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts.

UMW cored in the second, as Sink and David Slupek hit back to back doubles. The Eagles scored again in the seventh, as Bynum doubled to lead off the inning, and Keller followed with an RBI single.

The Eagles added a run in the ninth, as Burns was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Burns then took third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch.

Haught led UMW with two hits, while Keller and Slupek each drove in runs for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when they host Christopher Newport at 3 p.m.
