UMW Baseball Drops Saturday Twinbill at St. Mary's College

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader at St. Mary's College, falling in the opener, 5-3, before dropping game two, 10-6. The Eagles fall to 13-17 on the season.

The Eagles fell in game one, as the Seahawks scored two runs in the third. The Eagles answered with two in the fourth, as Connor Finnerty connected for a two-run single, but the Seahawks went ahead to stay with a three-run fourth. Jono Haught drove in the Eagles' third run with a sacrifice fly.

James Sink led the Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits, while Haught and Finnerty added a hit apiece. Ben Sisk took the loss for UMW, allowing four earned runs in five innings. Seth taylor and David Phillips combined for three scoreless innings of relief.

In the nightcap, the Eagles went ahead with three runs in the first, but the Seahawks scored once in the first, once in the second, and five times in the third, and led, 8-3, into the seventh. UMW cut the deficit to 8-6 in the eighth, but the Seahawks scored a pair in the eighth to take a 10-6 win.

Derek Nease had three hits in three at bats to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Haught, Finnerty, Kevin Stein, and Sink each had two hits. Paul McClure took the loss for UMW, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in three innings.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 3:30 p.m.
