GAME ONE | GAME TWO
The University of Mary Washington baseball team split its Saturday
doubleheader at St. Mary's College, winning the opener 5-2 before
falling in game two, 2-1. UMW moves to 8-12-1 overall and 4-8 in
Capital Athletic Conference play.
In the opener, St. Mary's scored twice in the first, but the
Eagles tied the score in the second. Santino Rosnova led off with a
double and moved to third on a Kevin Yarnell single to
left. Rosanova scored on a passed ball, and Yarnell came around to
score on a triple by Shane Sixsmith.
The Eagles scored twice more in the fifth, as Rosanova singled and
scored on a Yarnell double. Yarnell scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jeff Zeisler. UMW's final run came in the sixth, as
Ben Sisk led off with a triple and scored on a Seth
Jordan single.
In addition to Rosanova and Yarnell's single and doubles, Sixsmith
and Sisk each had a triple and single, and freshman catcher Jono
Haught added two singles and a triple. Junior Torey Macari earned
the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits in seven innings,
with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Seahawks scored twice in the first, and that
was all they needed in a 2-1 win. Both teams each only managed four
hits in the game, as senior Matt Abramson scattered four
hits in six innings, with one walk and nine strikeouts.
The teams will conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 1:00
