UMW Baseball Falls at St. Mary's in CAC Tourney 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision at St. Mary's College in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference on Thursday. The Eagles fall to 21-13 on the season, and will now travel to top-seeded Salisbury for a second round game on Friday.

The Eagles fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after three innings. UMW mounted a rally, scoring twice in the fourth, but the Seahawks answered with two in the sixth and scored single runs in the seventh and eighth.

The Eagles were led at the plate by junior Brent Steffey, who went 3-4 with a double and junior Santino Rosanova, who went 3-3 and was hit by a pitch. Senior Eric Rehbein took the loss for the Eagles, allowing five earned runs in six innings on nine hits, with a walk and three strikeouts.

Mary Washington will face top-seeded Salisbury on Friday in an elimination game for UMW in the double elimination tournament.
