UMW Baseball Falls to York, 16-4, in CAC Play

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 16-4 decision to York College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 16-10 overall and 6-7 in league play.

York scored once in the first and twice in the third and never looked back, rapping out 19 hits. The Eagles cut the deficit to 3-2 by the fifth inning, but York scored five runs in the sixth to up the advantage to 8-2. Mary Washington scored twice in the seventh to move the score to 8-4, but York pounded out eight runs on seven hits in the ninth to put the game away.

Senior 2B Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) led Mary Washington with three hits and two RBI, while freshman SS Mitchell Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio, Notre Dame Latin) and senior CF Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) each added a pair of hits. Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) scored twice for the Eagles.

Junior Matt Abramson (Malvern, Pa., Conestoga) took the loss for the Eagles, allowing three earned runs on five hits in three innings. York was led by Rob Klinck, who went 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Joey Couch got the win for the Spartans, allowing eight hits in 6.2 innings.

The Eagles will visit York on Sunday for a CAC doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday.
