#23 UMW Baseball Sweeps Gallaudet

The 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a doubleheader from Gallaudet University on Sunday in Washington, D.C., to improve to 15-5 overall. UMW won the opener, 5-3, and took the nightcap, 8-0.

In the opener, UMW came from behind to score three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to win, 5-3. Freshman 1B Jeff Rezach (Mendham, N.J., West Morris Mendham) had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for UMW, while Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha) also added a pair of hits. Senior John Miscioscia (Wilton, Conn., Wilton) earned the win with four innings of four hit ball, allowing two earned runs with no walks and three strikouts. Matt Abramson (Malvern, Pa., Conestoga) gained the save with three innings of one-hit relief.

In game two, sophomore Michael Straub (Falls Church, Va., George Mason) allowed just two hits in a seven inning complete game with eight strikeouts in gaining the win. Junior shortstop Brent Steffey (Colonial Beach, Va., Colonial Beach) went 3-4 with two runs scored and two driven in, and Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) and Mitchell Herringshaw (Chadron, Ohio, Notre Dame Latin) each had two hits for the Eagles.

The Eagles will host Bridgewater College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
