Senior right-handed pitcher Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) pitched a complete game five hitter and added a single, double, and two RBI as the 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team defeated Wesley College, 4-3, on Thursday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 13-3 on the season, and 5-2 in CAC play.
UMW scored all four runs in the second inning. With one out, Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha) walked, and advanced to second on a single by Mitchell Herringshaw (Chadron, Ohio, Notre Dame Latin). Both runners advanced on a walk to Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac), which loaded the bases. Rehbein and shortstop Brent Steffey (Colonial Beach, Va., Colonial Beach) followed with back-to-back two-run doubles, and that would be all the offense Rehbein would need.
The senior righty walked two and struck out seven, allowing three earned runs, to improve to 5-1 on the season.
The Eagles will host the Wolverines for a Saturday doubleheader at Dickinson Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
