UMW Baseball Tops Catholic, 13-3


Junior pitcher Parker Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va., Cape Henry Collegiate) scattered four hits and one earned run in a complete game victory as the University of Mary Washington baseball team topped Landmark conference-leading Catholic University, 13-3, on Tuesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 23-10 overall, while the Cardinals fall to 17-10.

Catholic jumped ahead 3-0 with unearned runs in the first and another score in the second. But the Eagles took the lead with four runs in the second and broke the game open with five runs in the third. UMW added four more runs in the sixth for the 13-3 win.

At the plate, the Eagles were led by Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson), who went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) went 3-5 with three RBI and a runs cored, and freshman Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County) went 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Senior catcher Nick Espinosa (Arnold, Md., Broadneck) had a pair of hits for the Eagles.

Talbert scattered four hits, walking none and striking out three.

The Eagles will visit Catholic University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
