UMW Baseball Tops Gallaudet, 14-3

The University of Mary Washington baseball team used a seven-run second inning in defeating Gallaudet University, 14-3, on Sunday at Gallaudet in Capital Ath;letic Conference play. The Eagles improve to 12-5 overall.

In the second, senior Alex Howell (Glen Allen, Va., Hermitage) walked. Senior Nick Espinosa (Arnold, Md., Broadneck) singled to left field, and Howell advanced to second. Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) singled through the right sideto plate Howell. Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson)followed with a three-run homer to left.Seamus Bergen (Fredericksburg, Va., Chancellor) doubled to left center and scored on a Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) triple. Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County) doubled to left field to plate Wright, and scored on an error.

In the third, Shane Sixsmith hit a two-run homer and Bergen scored on an Eric Rehbein double. The Eagles plated one in the fourth and two in the sixth to take an 11-0 lead. Junior John Miscioscia (Wilton, Conn., Wilton) threw five hitless innings in gaining the win, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Offensively, Bergen had two doubles and a single, Will Wright singled twice and tripled, and Howell doubled twice for the Eagles. Sixsmith singled and homered for the Eagles, while Clement added a three-run jack for UMW.

Mary Washington will visit Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
