Seventh-ranked Salisbury University erupted for eight second inning runs en route to a 13-6 win over the University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference baseball action on Wenesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in CAC play, while the Sea Gulls improve to 9-1 and 7-0.

After a scoreless first inning, Salisbury connected for eight hits and eight runs in the second. UMW got two back in the third when junior right fielder Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) singled and scored on junior second baseman Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga)'s RBI double. Rehbein scored on a Salisbury error.

The Sea Gulls added three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. UMW plated two runs in the eighth when Seamus Bergen (Fredericksburg, Va., Chancellor) singled and scored on a rehbein triple. Rehbein scored on a Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) sacrifice fly. The Eagles added two more in the ninth as Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) walked, Clement singled, and Bergen singled to load the bases. Rehbein was hit by a pitch to drive in a run, and then Wright followed with another sac fly to cap the scoring.

Rehebin singled, doubled, and tripled in addition to his RBI hit by pitch, scoring twice and driving in three runs. Clement had a pair of hits, and Wright was 1-3 with a pair of RBI. Salisbury was led by Brian Green's four hits.

Freshman Zach Goodwyn (Spotsylvania, Va., Spotsylvania) took the loss for UMW. Freshman Nick Corbin (Staunton, Va., Buffalo Gap) allowed five runs on nine hits in 7.1 innings of relief, walking one and striking out four. Dustin herbert allowed one earned run in seven innings in picking up the win.

Mary Washington will host Cazenovia College on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
