UMW Baseball Takes CAC Doubleheader From York to Move to 6-0

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Junior Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) pitched a complete game six hitter in the opener, and added a pair of doubles in the nightcap to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of York College on Saturday at Dicksinson Stadium. The Eagles move to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in CAC play, while the Spartans fall to 2-5 and 0-2.

In the opener, UMW scored three times in the third inning, as senior shortstop Seamus Bergen (Fredericksburg, Va., Chancellor) singled, advanced to second on ann error, and scored on a Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) RBI single. Freshman 1B Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County) followed with an RBI single to plate Rehbein, and Wright scored on an Alex Howell (Glen Allen, Va., Hermitage) double. Jordan doubled in the fifth and scored on Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha)'s rbi single. The Eagles scored again in the sixth when Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Bergen single.

Rebein allowed six hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out eight. Both York runs were unearned. Bergen, Wright and Jordan led UMW with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, UMW scored twice in the first and twice in the second and held on for a 4-3 win. Rehbein and Jordan doubled and Howell singled in the first, and in the second, Clement and Begen singled, and Rehbein provided a sacrifice fly. Wright singled to plate Bergen.

On the mound, freshman Matt Abramson (Malvern, Pa., Conestoga) allowed four hits in four innings for the win, allowing two walks and two strikeouts on one earned run. Freshman Nick Corbin (Staunton, Va., Buffalo Gap) earned the save allowing two hits in three innings with one earned run allowed. At the plate Rehbein and Clement each had two hits, with Jordan hitting his fifth double in six Eagle games.

Mary Washington will host Frostburg State University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
