Goodwyn Throws No Hitter as UMW Opens With CAC Sweep of Gallaudet
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Freshman pitcher Zach Goodwyn (Spotsylvania, Va., Spotsylvania) threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the nightcap of a Capital Athletic Conference season-opening sweep by the University of Mary Washington baseball team over Gallaudet University on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles won the opener, 7-2, before Goodwyn's gem in game two, a 3-0 Eagle victory.

In the opener, the Eagles found themselves behind, 1-0, in the third, when Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha) reached on a strikeout error and scored on a Nick Espinosa (Arnold, Md., Broadneck) double. Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) walked and scored to give the Eagles the lead. In the fourth, Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County) doubled to lead off the inning and scored along with Graham Manning (Narragansett, R.I., Prout) and Rosanova in the frame.

Junior 2b Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) singled and Jordan doubled in the fifth to push the lead to 7-1, and UMW held on for the 7-2 win in game one. Freshman Torey Mancari (Warrenton, Va., Paul VI) allowed one run and two hits in five innings in picking up the win, striking out four.

In game two, Rosanova singled and scored on a Clement single in the third, Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) singled and scored on a Jordan single in the fourth, and Wright doubled and scored in the sixth on another Jordan single. But the story of game two was Goodwyn, who struck out 10 in seven innings, walking one.

Wright singled twice and doubled in game two to lead UMW, while Jordan singled twice.

UMW will host Penn State-Altoona on Sunday at noon.
