Chris Hirons Named Assistant Director of Sports Information at UMW

Chris Hirons has been named Assistant Director of Sports Information at the University of Mary Washington. Hirons will assist with the Eagle athletic website (www.umweagles.com), its social media profiles and the publicity of all 21 varsity and two team level programs.

"We are so excited to bring Chris on board in a very important role", said UMW Assistant AD for Communications Clint Often. "He brings a strong resume of success, an outstanding skill set, and great work ethic to the office."

Hirons grew up in the Fredericksburg, Va. region and attended many athletic events hosted by UMW throughout his childhood and into his high school years. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Sports Media & Analytics concentration). At Tech, he worked as a student intern with TechSideline.com and served as the Editor-in-Chief for 3304Sports.com, Tech's online platform for student-run sports journalism.

Before college, Hirons interned with PotomacLocal.com as a local government reporter, covering the Stafford Board of Supervisors and School Board. He also chronicled the Fredericksburg Nationals' move to the area from Northern Virginia. He is a 2019 graduate of Stafford High School (Stafford, Va.).

Hirons was born into a Washington, D.C. sports family and continues to follow the Washington Nationals, Washington Commanders and Washington Wizards closely.
