
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington captured eight titles among the 22 conference sports to sweep all three categories of the Capital Athletic Conference all-sports award competition. The Eagles finished atop the standings in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award, the Men's Commissioner's Award and the Women's Commissioner's Award.
In addition to their eight team championships, the Eagles compiled seven top-three finishes en route to a combined total of 156.5 points in the 2018-19 Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award standings. UMW totaled 88.0 points in 12 women's sports and 68.5 points in 10 men's sports to win the overall competition by 7.5 points over Christopher Newport.
Mary Washington notched team championships in men's soccer, men's and women's swimming swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track and field and volleyball throughout the 2018-19 school year.
It marks the 13th CAC all-sports trophy for the Eagles and first since the 2012-13 season. The Women's Commissioner's Award is the third overall for the Eagles, while they secured the Men's Commissioner's Award for the first time.
Christopher Newport placed second overall with five CAC titles in men's and women's basketball, baseball, women's soccer and softball. The Captains secured 149.0 points in the all-sports standings, with 62.5 on the men's side and 86.5 on the women's side. CNU finished second in the women's standings and in a tie for third in the men's standings.
Salisbury landed in third place in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award rankings with 136.5 points. The Sea Gulls won four titles in men's and women's indoor track and field, men's lacrosse and field hockey en route to second-place in the Men's Commissioner's Cup (65.5) and third in the Women's Commissioner's Cup (71.0).
York tallied 132.0 points to claim fourth place in the all-sports standings. The Spartans won CAC titles in five sports - men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's golf and women's lacrosse. YCP finished tied-for-third in the men's (62.5) and fourth in women's (69.5) cup standings.
Frostburg State and Southern Virginia tied for fifth place with 58.5 points each, while St. Mary's and Penn State Harrisbug tied for seventh with 44.0 points apiece.
