#2 Moment from 2014-15 from UMW Athletics: Haley Kane Wins NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Gains All-America Honors

The number two moment on the UMW Athletics Top 10 for 2014-15 is rising field hockey senior Haley Kane gaining the National Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association after gaining second team All-America honors.

The NFHCA National Scholar Athlete Award went to the Division I, Division II and Division III All-American First, Second or Third Team selection who possesses the highest cumulative GPA.

University of Mary Washington junior Haley Kane earned the award for Division III. Kane, a second team All-America selection this year, maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in her psychology major.

"We are very proud of Haley for earning this national distinction", said Director of Athletics Ken Tyler. "She is an outstanding representative for UMW Athletics and exemplifies all the best characteristics of a true student-athlete."

Kane, a first team all-region and first team All-Capital Athletic Conference choice this season, led the Eagles to a 14-5 overall record, and national ranking throughout the season.

One of the top defensive midfielders in the nation, Kane scored nine goals and added a team-high 10 assists this season for UMW.
