UMW's Lunding-Johansson, Gaul Named CAC Tennis Players of the Week

Mary Washington senior David Lunding-Johansson was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 15, 2016.

Mary Washington senior David Lunding-Johansson was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season after winning a pair of singles matches and doubles matches over the weekend for the 15th-ranked Eagles. He won a three setter at No. 2 singles against 31st-ranked Washington & Lee, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, and captured a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Southern Virginia. He also won a pair of matches at No. 3 doubles.

Four CAC men's tennis teams competed last week ... Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg will kick off their spring seasons this week ... In CAC play, Mary Washington and Salisbury are both 1-0 ... Salisbury is on its annual spring break trip to California this week, with four matches scheduled on the West Coast ... Mary Washington is ranked No. 15 in the ITA national rankings and No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region, while Christopher Newport is No. 32 nationally and No. 9 in the region. Salisbury is No. 10 in the region ... In the ITA singles rankings, UMW's Brandon Griffin is No. 32 in the nation and No. 9 in the region, UMW's Stratton Gilmore is No. 42 in the nation and No. 11 in the region, UMW's David Lunding-Johansson is No. 16 in the region, and CNU's David Reed is No. 21 ... In the regional doubles rankings, Gilmore and Griffin are ranked 10th for the Eagles.

Mary Washington senior Chrissy Gaul earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after leading the 18th-ranked Eagles to victories over UT-Dallas and York last week. Gaul won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, against UT-Dallas, and also was victorious at No. 1 singles against York, overcoming a 5-2 first set deficit to win 7-5, 6-2.
