
Senior field hockey All-American Lisa Charney and sophomore national champion Alex Anderson were named as UMW's first-ever Athletes of the Year on Thursday night at the athletic banquet.
Charney, the Synapsesports.com national Division III Player of the Year, was a consensus first team, All-American, and also collected first team all-region, first team all-conference, first team all-state accolades, including region, state, and conference Player of the Year honors.
She led the field hockey team to a 20-2 record, the CAC Championship, and all the way to the NCAA Final Four for just the second time ever. She scored 25 goals and added four assists for 54 points.
Anderson was a three-time All-American at the NCAA Division III Championships, including winning the national championship in the 400 yard individual medley, breaking the national Division III record by a full second in the process. He also finished second in the 200 yard butterfly, missing a second national title by .07 seconds.
He was named the CAC Men's Swimmer of the Year as well.
