Griffin Wins Through to Semifinals as Men's Tennis ITA Regional Continues at UMW

Junior Brandon Griffin has advanced through the quarterfinals with two more wins on Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Southeastern Regional at UMW. Griffin will compete in the semifinals on Monday.

Griffin, unseeded in the event, downed ninth seeded Kenny Zheng, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 16, and ninth seeded David Perez in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. He will face topp seeded Mike Buxbaum in the semis on Monday. Buxbaum got to the semis by downing UMW's David Lunding-Johansson, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarters. The Eagles also had fifth seeded Stratton Gilmore advance to the quarterfinals and he fell, 7-6, 7-5 to second seeded Abhishek Allah.

The Eagles had three doubles teams compete in the round of 16 on Sunday. Eric Hurwitz and Nolan Perugini won, 8-6, over the fourth seed of Holt and Johnson, but fell in the quarters, 7-6 (2). Ninth seeded Alex Cragg and Lunding-Johansson fell in the round of 16, 8-5, and second seeded Gilmore and Griffin fell, 8-5, in the round of 16.

The semifinals and finals will take place at UMW on Monday.
