Eagles See Three Advance to Day Two in SIngles and Doubles at ITA Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team has seen three singles players and three doubles teams advance through day one of the ITA Regional championships, and will continue play on Sunday.

In singles, fifth seeded Stratton Gilmore defeated Edward Ang, 6-1, 7-5, in the first round, and Thomas Johnson, 6-2, 6-4, in the second round to advance to the round of 16. Brandon Griffin defeated third seeded David Reed, 6-2, 6-3, before beating Daisuke Nakayama, 6-3, 6-3. Ninth seeded David Lunding-Johansson defeated Justin Cerny, 7-5, 6-4, and Justin Kang, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

In doubles play, Gilmore and Griffin won in the round of 32, 8-4. Eric Hurwitz and Nolan Perugini won, 8-2, in the first round, and 8-4, in the second to advance to the round of 16, as did Alex Cragg and Lunding-Johansson.

Play will continue indoors on Sunday and Monday.
