#19 UMW Men's Tennis Tops CAC Foe Christopher Newport, 8-1, on Tuesday

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Christopher Newport University, 8-1, on Tuesday in Capital Athletic Conference action in Newport News. The Eagles improve to 18-3 on the season.

The Eagles swept the three doubles matches in close contests. Tyler Carey and Evan Charles won at one, 8-6; Stratton Gilmore and Brandon Griffin won at two, 8-6; and Andrew Curtis and Eric Hurwitz won at three, 9-7.

The Eagles then picked up five straight set wins in singles for the match. Carey won at one over David Reed, 6-1, 6-3; Gilmore beat Steven Boslet at two, 6-2, 6-1; Brandon Griffin beat Arttu Fiva, 6-3, 7-6 at four; Charles beat Chiraag Shetty, 6-2, 7-5, at five, and Hurwitz beat Michael Dodd at six, 6-3, 6-2 at six.

The Eagles improve to a perfect 7-0 in CAC action, and will next take on ninth ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
