UMW Men's Cross Country Finishes 1st at ODAC Preview Race; Women Take 2nd

The University of Mary Washington cross country teams competed at the ODAC Preview Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College on Saturday morning. The men finished first among six teams, and the women finished second among seven schools.

The men finished first with 22 points. Senior Matt O'Cadiz (Falls Church, Va. / JEB Stuart) finished first overall in the 8,000 meter race with a time of 26:53.9, and junior Patrick Brown (Alexandria, Va. / Thomas Edison) took second overall at 26:54.8. Senior Justin Libman (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) finished fourth at 27:17.7, junior Nicholas Onorato (Fairfax Station, Va. / South County) finished seventh at 27:52.3, and senior Blake Mason (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) finished eighth at 27:57.3 to round out the Eagles' top five.

On the women's side, UMW finished second with 54 points, just 10 behind first place Washington & Lee. Sophomore Kelly Young (Ruckersville, Va. / William Monroe) finished third overall at 24:29.0, followed by senior Cameron Delean (South Riding, Va. / Freedom) in ninth place at 24:37.8 and senior Teresa Guzman (Lorton, Va. / South County) in 12th at 24:51.9. Freshman Julia Kapp took 14th at 25:04.1, and freshman Jessica Oberlies (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) took 16th at 25:11.9.

Both teams will be idle next weekend before visiting Hood College on Oct. 16.
