#22 UMW Volleyball Opens with 3-0 Win; Hinsey Wins 100th Career Match

The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team opened the 2023 season wih a 3-0 victory over Marymount University on Friday night, giving head coach Alex Hinsey his 100h career victory. Game scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.

The Saints jumped ahead in the first game, 3-1, before the Eagles scored four straight. The score remained tight until UMW reeled off seven of eigh points to take a 15-8 advantage. After three Saints points, the Eagles answered with eight of 10 to reach a 23-13 lead, and a pair of service errors gave UMW the win.

 In the second and third, the score remained close throughout, with UMW scoring late rallies to take both games.

Senior Jordan Lyons led the Eagles with 12 kills against three errors, while Chloe Crosen and Bryanna Miller each scored seven kills. Lauren Foley posted 19 assists, and joined Miller wih a pair of service aces, and Lyons led the way with 16 digs. Miller posed a pair of solo blocks and one assist, while Lyons added two solo blocks.

The Eagles will be back in acion on Saturday when they host Muhlenberg College at noon.
