UMW Volleyball Tops CNU in Five Games in C2C Semifinal

The second seeded University of Mary Washington overcame a shaky start to defeat third seed Christopher Newport University in five games in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference semifinal on Friday night at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 23-7 on the season, and advance to Saturday's championship.

UMW fell behind, dropping the first game, 25-23, but evened the score with a 26-24 victory in game two. CNU rebounded to take the third, 25-17, but the Eagles claimed the fourth, 25-23, and the fifth, 15-12, for the dramatic win.

Junior all-conference hitter Jordan Lyons led the Eagles with 20 kills and 24 digs, while sophomore all-conference hitter Chloe Crosen added 13 kills. Sophomore Lauren Foley scored 21 assists, and junior Brenna Campbell added 19, and sophomore Hannah Livermon led with two aces and 26 digs. Senior Krista Rodgers posted eight kills and nine block assists on the night.

The Eagles will advance to Saturday's championship match against fourth-seeded Salisbury University, who knocked off top seed UC Santa Cruz in three games earlier in the day. UMW has advanced to five of the past six C2C Championships; The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.
