UMW Volleyball Tops CNU, Falls to Carnegie Mellon on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split its Friday matches at Ron Rosner Arena, topping rival Christopher Newport University in five games before falling to Carnegie Mellon University in four. The Eagles move to 4-2 on the season.

UMW opened with a thrilling five setter over CNU. Game scores were 25-17, 16-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12. 

Junior Jordan Lyons led UMW with 19 kills and 17 digs, while senior Krista Rodgers added 14 kills against just one error. Chloe Crosen also reached double figures with 10 kills. Lauren Foley scored 24 assists and Brenna Campbell added 17. Sarah Moore scored a team-high 20 digs, leading five Eagles in double figures.

The Eagles then fell in the 8:00 match to Carnegie Mellon, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21.

Rodgers led UMW with 14 kills, while Crosen added 12 and Lyons 11. Dakota Hansen scored 30 digs and Lyons 22, and Foley led with 30 assists. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against the University of Scranton.
