UMW Volleyball Tops Wittenberg, Geneseo on Saturday in Pittsburgh

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team captured a pair of quality wins on Saturday, taking 3-1 victories from Wittenberg University and SUNY Geneseo in Pittsburgh, Pa., on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University. The Eagles improve to 18-11 on the season.

UMW opened the day with a 3-1 win over Wittenberg, 25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 29-27, in a match that was closely fought throughout. Senior Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va.) led the way with 15 kills and a team-high 20 digs, while senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa.) added 16 kills and four block assists. 

Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored 23 assists and Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va.) added 19. Emma Hadley (Chesapeake, Va.) had seven kills and five block assists for UMW.

The Eagles then topped Geneseo, 3-1, with scores of 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-11. Finegan and Casey again led the way, with Finegan scoring 12 kills, and Casey scoring her second double-double of the day with 10 kills and 18 digs. 

Foley had 24 assists, with Santinga scoring 18. Sarah Moore had 21 digs, and Krista Rodgers had six kills and seven total blocks.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
