UMW Volleyball Sweeps Saturday Matches at Stevenson Invite

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept its Saturday matches with Dickinson College and Stevenson University on Saturday in Owings Mills, Md. The Eagles topped Dickinson, 3-0, before knocking off the host Mustangs for their first loss of the season, 3-0. UMW moves to 6-3 on the season.

UMW started the day with a noon match against Dickinson, and the Eagles proved victorious, 3-0. Game scores were 25-20, 25-17. 25-23. The Eagles rapped out 42 kills in the three games.

Senior hitter Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) scored a team-high 10 kills, while Jordan Lyons (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) added nine kills, and Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va. / Granby), Krista Rodgers (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax), and Chloe Crosen (Winchester, Va. / Millbrook) added six apiece. Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va. / Madison County) provided 20 assists, and Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial) added 15, while Sarah Moore (Hellam, Pa. / Eastern York) led four players in double figures with 16 digs. 

The Eagles then faced host Stevenson, who entered with a 7-0 record, and UMW came away with a 3-0 victory. Game scores were 30-28, 25-15, 25-20.

Finegan again led UMW with 13 kills against just one error in 27 attempts, while Lyons added nine kills, and Casey eight. Santinga had 16 assists and Foley 13, and Moore led the way with 20 digs.

Mary Washington, winners of four straight matches, will host McDaniel College on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
