UMW Volleyball Splits Friday Matches with Clarkson, Southern Virginia

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split its Friday matches with Clarkson and Southern Virginia in Virginia Beach, to move to 1-2 on the season. The Eagles topped Clarkson in three games before falling to Southern Virginia in four.

In the Clarkson match, the Eagles swept the Golden Knights 25-20, 30-28, 25-15. Junior Krista Rogers (Fairfax, Va/ Fairfax) led the Eagles with 10 kills while Senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa/ Trinity) scored 8. Senior Abby Wiles (Spotsylvania, Va/ Courtland) added 17 digs in the UMW win with Sophomore Jordan Lyons (Fairfax, Va/ W.T. Woodson) and Junior Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va/ Madison County) each had 9 digs.

UMW fell in the first set against Southern Virginia before coming back to take the second. The Eagles then fell in the third and fourth. Wiles and Lyons led the Eagles in digs with 17 and 14 followed by 10 from Sophomore Abby Tank (Wilmington, N.C./ Hoggard). Finegan scored 12 kills and led the team with 13.0 points.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they face Mt. Aloysius at 10:00 am and Meredith at 2:00 pm in Virginia Beach, Va.
