UMW Volleyball Splits Pair at Lynchburg

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Lynchburg College Invitational on Saturday, topping Johnson and Wales University in three games before falling in three to the hosts. Game scores in the UMW win over Johnson & Wales were 25-14, 25-18, 25-12, and in the nightcap, UMW fell, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.

Against Johns & Wales, Laura Gomez had seven kills and three aces, Hannah Lawson had eight kills and three aces, Sammy Hogue added 10 assists and Katie Shiflett added 15 assists and three aces.

In the loss to Lynchburg, Gomez had eight kills, Cleo Baker had seven, and Lawson added five. Shifflett had 17 assists, Kaitlynn Wickersham posted 17 digs, and Karissa Herrick had four solo blocks.

Mary Washington (8-2) will return to action on Wednesday when they host Wesley College in a CAC match starting at 7:00 p.m.
