#14 UMW Women's Tennis Opens With 9-0 Win Over Washington (Md.)

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Washington (Md.) College on Saturday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The win is the first at UMW for new head coach Alex Covington.

The Eagles swept the three doubles matches, with Abby Moghtader and Amanda Hagino taking an 8-0 win at one, and Hana Kimmey and Rebecca Stepleman adding a 8-0 win at two. Emily Beckner and Riley Smith rounded out the sweep with an 8-5 win at three.

In singles, Hagino quickly won at two, 6-0, 6-0, and Smith took a 6-0, 6-1 win at six. Stepleman won at four, 6-1, 6-0, and Moghtader won at one, 6-0, 6-2, before Beckner won at five, 6-1, 6-0, and Kimmey claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win at three.

The Eagles will face Case Western Reserve on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in Lexington, Va.
