The 12th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated #14 Southwestern University, 6-3, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season.
The Eagles jumped ahead by claiming two of the three doubles points. Junior Abby Moghtader and senior Lauren Quinn defeated Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee at one, 8-4, and sophomore Hana Kimmey and freshman Emily Beckner downed Taylor Despriet and Lauren Chisholm at three, 8-3.
UMW then gained wins from Moghtader at one singles over Mitrofanova, 7-5, 6-4, and from senior Claire Coleman at two over Despriet, 6-2, 6-3. Quinn defeated Emma Kesterson at three, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Amanda Hagino topped Sydney Wahl at four, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
UMW will host 18th ranked Kenyon College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
