#12 UMW Women's Tennis Blanks Averett, 9-0, on Sunday

The 12th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Averett University, 9-0, on Sunday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Eagles opened with three convincing wins in doubles. Abby Moghtader and Lauren Quinn topped Maxence Lippens and Megan Lombardt, 8-4, at one, and Claire Coleman and Amanda Hagino won at two, 8-1, over Inka Zeilstra and Keira Gunning. Hana Kimmey and Emily Beckner completed the sweep at three, with an 8-1 win over Alejandra Garcia and L. Sjostrom Krook.

In singles, Moghtader defeated Lippens, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6, at one, and Coleman defeated Lombardt at two, 6-1, 6-2. Quin stopped Zeilstra at three, 6-1, 6-3, and Kimmey won at four over Paula Rhysen, 6-2, 6-1. Beckner won at five over Gunning, 6-1, 6-2, and Riley Smith won at six, 6-0, 6-0, over Krook.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, when they host Case Western Reserve at 5:30 p.m.
