UMW Women's Soccer Notches 1-1 Tie with #4 CNU on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie with fourth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night in Newport News, Va. The Eagles, 4-7-2 on the season, move to 1-1-1 in Coast to Coast Athletic Conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Christopher Newport struck quickly to open the second, scoring 21 seconds into play. But the Eagles answered swiftly, as senior Gracie Williams (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored her second goal in as many games just 2:54 later to knot the score at 1-1.

The game remained tied throughout the rest of the second half, and both overtime periods. UMW hands the Captains their first non-victory of the season, as they move to 13-0-1.

Christopher Newport led in shots, 36-12, as well as corner kicks, 13-4. UMW senior goalkeeper Allison Nork (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) made a career-high 14 saves.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Salisbury University at 2:00 p.m.
