UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Roanoke, 10-9

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 decision at Roanoke College on Wednesday evening. The Eagles fall to 3-6 on the season.

After Roanoke opened the scoring with a pair of goals, UMW answered with four straight to gain the lead. Bridget Crowley opened the scoring at 11:32, and just 37 seconds later, Molly Daw connected on a free position shot. Caeley Terapane put the Eagles ahead with 7:52 left on an Abigail Fisher assist, and Victoria Mueller added another with 5:28 left. The Maroons capped the scoring in the first quarter to draw to within 4-3.

Terapane opened the second quarter by scoring on a Mueller assist, and, aftter a Roanoke goal, senior Katie Blair netted a pair of goals to up the Eagle margin to 7-4. Terapane added another sandwiched between two Roanoke scores to give the Eagles an 8-6 edge at halftime.

Both defenses tightened in the third quarter, as the Maroons netted two goals to tie the score entering the fourth quarter. The Maroons scored with six and three minutes left before the Eagles used a Blair goal with 1:15 left to draw to within one.

Roanoke led in shots, 28-21, and scored 16 ground balls to 10 for UMW. Eagle goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 10 saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host Stevenson University on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
